John graduated with honors from the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, where he earned a BFA. He also holds a BA degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. He worked for 14 years in New York as an art director, was promoted to creative director, directed TV commercials, and sat on the board of directors for the international advertising agency for which he also worked. He has received many awards as both a commercial and fine artist. His work has appeared in numerous group and one and two person shows at galleries and museums throughout the country including, the C.M. Russell museum in Great Falls Montana, the Nicolaison museum in Caspar Wyoming, The University of Utah Museum, Ogden Utah, The Governers Mansion, in Helena,Montana, and the Yellowstone museum 39th art show and auction, Billings, Montana,and the Florida Banker International Exhibition, Disney World, Orlando, Florida. John and wife, Karen, own Garre Fine Art , in Livingston, Montana, where they feature new works of fine art produced in their studio. He is an avid horseman, fisherman and outdoorsman whose work is daily inspired by his love of Montana. He has taught art privately and in workshops in New York and Montana, and participated in many auctions for charitable causes. For example: Big Brothers and Sisters, Worthy Student Fund, Make a wish Foundation, and the Stafford Animal Shelter, Livingston, Mt. “ I hope the world is just a little bit better off for my having been here. It’s something I strive to achieve in art and in life.”
